Sometimes life hands you lemons and you just need to make lemonade with it. Or you get a pile of scraps and then you make a quilt. You get off your schedule and you just have to get back on. As you can see, I’ve been off schedule since I didn’t blog for the last two weeks. We went on vacation to visit the grandkids the first week so I have a legitimate reason for not blogging. That and I haven’t taken the time to figure out the Word Press app on my iPad yet. It was more important to spend my limited time with the kids. Last week, I have no excuse. I just haven’t gotten back on schedule. I’m still a bit off my routine but am working on getting things back in order so here goes.
This week I had the opportunity to Read the rest of this entry »
Have you ever participated in a guild quilt challenge? Being a member of a local guild or an online guild gives you an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and try something new within guidelines established by the group leader. Seems I’m always talking about Read the rest of this entry »
Gordian Knot Quilted with Press-n-Seal
Several years ago I read about using Press-n-Seal as a means of marking your quilt. I decided why not, I’ll give it a try. I was still quilting on my Elna domestic machine then. I used press-n-seal on the borders and large side triangles of this quilt. I finished the rest of the quilt with free motion quilting. Like it’s advertised, it sticks to anything. It’s been a great week. Last week I promised I would share what pattern I decided to use for all the wonderful cat fabrics I’ve been collecting. I’ll pull back the curtain and reveal what I actually started at this year’s annual “Fun Days” hosted by our Lincoln County Piecemakers Quilt Guild. Before I get to the pattern and book I chose let’s talk about what we did at Fun Days.
It’s always a wonderful time to get away with your quilting sisters and Read the rest of this entry »
Now don’t excited, it’s only been two days since I posted. My title leads you to believe you will see a tool review each Tuesday. I’m not promising that at all. It just so happens that it was past time for me to change my rotary blade yesterday. I’ll take free stuff anytime if I think I can actually use it. But before I get into the review….. What an awesome week it’s been. On Monday I wasn’t even sure I’d have a job in two months. Then I found out I was moving laterally to a new challenging position with lots of interesting opportunities. And I’ll be working with all the same great people I work with now. You just never know what a day will bring.
I spent Saturday at a wonderful local quilt show with Denise Panter from Count it “All” Joy. You can read about our experience at the show on her blog. I will share Read the rest of this entry »
For the last couple of weeks I’ve had a friend’s quilt on my frame. Since I recently started accepting customer’s quilts she scared me when she said she had a “Baltimore like” quilt for me to tackle. I quilted for myself for many years and have had my HandiQuilter for over two years. However, in my mind, working on other quilter’s projects makes me a bit nervous. I don’t want to mess up something they worked so hard on. So the “like a Baltimore” didn’t give me a good feeling…………………….. but I accepted the challenge.
As you can see by the picture this isn’t anything like a Baltimore quilt except that it’s ten appliqué blocks with lots of white space around the appliqué. She is a very fun person and easy to please so I thought I would try Read the rest of this entry »
